WHO WE ARE

The Charleston Marine Life Center Community

Here at the Marine Life Center we thrive on collaboration and the support and involvement of our community.  The CMLC began as a dream of the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology’s Director, Dr. Craig Young.  A lot of work, and the support of local businesses, tribes, local government organizations, and generous individuals helped move the Marine Life Center from an idea to reality.  University of Oregon faculty and students contribute their expertise for exhibit development, and facilities staff tackle challenges from hanging whale skeletons to keeping seawater flowing through the tanks. Members of the local fishing community help with our permitted collection of animals for display. Throughout, our amazing community and student volunteers help with the daily care of animals and answer visitors’ questions.
